The new College Football Playoff will start in the 2014-15 season. Here is how the playoff is expected to work:

Teams

A selection committee will pick and seed the four teams that will participate in the playoff. The group in charge of the College Football Playoff has yet to determine how the selection committee will be structured, but are currently expected to use the following criteria to determine the four teams: regular season performance, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and championships won.

Semifinal Rotation & Games

The semifinal games will rotate between the following six bowls:

Sugar Bowl

Rose Bowl

Orange Bowl

Cotton Bowl

Chick-fil-A Bowl

Fiesta Bowl

When the bowl is not the site of a semifinal game, it will be the location of four matchups for eight other teams.

Each year, the semifinal games will take place during the New Year’s holiday. One semifinal game will match the #1 seed against the #4 seed and the other will be between the #2 seed and #3 seed. The winners will advance to the National Championship Game.

National Championship Game

The National Championship Game will take place at least a week after the semifinal games on a Monday night. Each year, a different U.S. city will be selected to host the National Championship Game.

First College Football Playoff

The first College Football Playoff is only 600 days away. The Sugar Bowl played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Rose Bowl held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California will host the semifinal games on Thursday, January 1st for the 2014-15 season. The National Championship Game will take place on Monday, January 12th in Arlington, Texas at Cowboys Stadium.

Do you suffer from back pains or have recently had a back injury? Athlete or not, it is important to provide support to and immobilize the back to protect it from injury. Consulting a doctor after getting back pain is important to determine the cause of the pain, especially since untreated injuries can become worse over time. Back braces are sometimes prescribed as a solution to back pain problems.

Below are some points that show the importance of back braces.

Importance

a. Immobilization: Braces restrict the movement of the back reducing further damage to an injury site. Traumatic injuries to the back such as fractures require the back to be immobilized for a while to aid the recovery process. Braces meant to immobilize the back are usually designed to restrict the flexing, rotating and extension of the back.

b. Maintain good posture: A deviation from normal posture can be cause back pain, injury, weakness and structural deformities. A back brace is useful to offer support to the back and help restore and keep normal curvature and alignment of the spine which characterizes normal posture.

c. Pain management: Back pain can cripple your everyday life. Medical practitioners have recommended back braces for back pain management by providing ways to compress the abdomen and reduce strain on the in-vertebral discs and the vertebrae. They also limit movements that place strain on the injured structures of the back to allow it to fast get healed.

d. Alternative to surgery: Depending on the severity of the situation, braces can be prescribed as a conservative treatment, especially when the doctor hopes to avoid invasive treatment. The conservative treatment including the use of braces and can be practiced before using more invasive methods such as surgery and nerve blocks in cases when invasive methods are inevitable.

Types

Back braces come in different types. Two most common examples are:

1. The Boston brace: It is a symmetrical brace which runs the length of the back used to correct scoliosis spine curvatures. The brace should be worn for a duration of about 23 to 30 days. Before using one, a doctor should be consulted because factors such as spinal maturity, extent of spinal curvature, the location of a curve in your spine and the likelihood of the curve worsening come into play when prescribing the Boston brace.

2. Charleston bending brace: An asymmetrical brace worn exclusively at night to correct spinal curvatures. They are used by patients between 12 and 14 years of age who have thoracolumbar-only scoliosis curve issues. Structural maturity makes this method less effective in patients in their late teens.

People think catching a football is an easy task for a football keeper, which is not at all true! Although it looks quite easy from a distance, if you watch quite closely and get to know about the tactics of catching a football, you will definitely find it a very tough job to do.

In football, it is mandatory to learn how to catch a football. It is considered the most significant technique which must be mastered by every keeper while playing the game. If you possess extraordinary skills of catching a football, then you probably will never fumble the ball while dodging the opposing players.

How Can You Make A Perfect Catch?

The first important thing is your focus and concentration. You have to focus on the ball and you must fix your eyes upon it to see where it is going. You must keep your eye on the ball until it is in your hands and you catch it.

The next important tip is to stretch your arms when the ball is about to come closer to you. Make sure that the ball comes in contact with you to the extent where your body can extend. Stretch it as much as you can, so that you can easily get the ball in your grasp.

The position of your hand is very important when it comes to practicing catching the ball. You have to keep your palms away and thumb together. The ball must come in between the empty space between the fingers and the palm. Try to catch the ball with your fingers instead of catching it with your palm because there are very rare chances that the ball comes in contact with your palms directly.

Catch the ball properly. Maintain your focus and once you catch the ball, tuck it under your arms or in any other place where you can keep a strong hold of it.

How Can You Catch A Football While Running?

Make sure you are running ahead of the football rather than running behind it. Keep your eyes focused on it and put your entire concentration on the ball’s position. This will bring your body into good position and you will be able to catch the ball while running.

When you see that you are now in a good position to catch the ball, turn your body and your upper body part to catch the ball in an appropriate manner.

Your hand’s position must be the same which has been described in the above description. Catch the ball between your fingers and give it a strong grasp.

Again, you have to tuck it somewhere so that you keep a strong hold on it.

How To Catch Football With One Hand?

If you want to learn how to catch the ball with one hand, it is important you learn the above two measures which have been discussed above. If you know how to catch it while running during the game, it will become easier for you to understand how to catch it with one hand.

All the techniques are the same as discussed above. The focus of your eye must be on the ball and your positioning must be good enough to catch the ball in an appropriate manner. Just learn the basics and you will be able to catch the football with one hand during the game.

Another important thing is to follow the ball until it becomes slower in pace. Catch it when it becomes slow and then quickly tuck it in a secure position.

You can get a lot more information about football from the World of Football. You can also learn the rules about five a side football Edinburgh.

The story broke yesterday afternoon after this Deadspin article was released, and since then, the news and social media has been abuzz with different aspects of the story. Perhaps he was in on it, but there’s a chance he wasn’t. Some people believe he had a hand in creating the tragedies to put him in a good position to win the Heisman (what better story than persevering after the loss of a girlfriend and grandmother?). Right now we’re kinda giving the poor guy the benefit of the doubt. At least the grandma was real.

What’s most amazing to me is how much the media messed up. They posted screenshots of her tweets, reported the story an awful lot, and didn’t do much fact-checking. It’s pretty crazy how many people get away with creating fake profiles that are believable, but honestly, there are ways to check to see if the person behind the profile is indeed who they say they are. Deadspin came out with another article about how much the media really messed up.

Regardless of whether or not Te’o knew about the scam, it’s still sad to think someone would go to such great lengths to concoct such a phony story. If Te’o really didn’t know, he probably would have text messages, phone calls, and receipts showing he bought her flowers, etc. (especially for the funeral). It’s a little hard to believe he could have been strung along that long without even seeing the girl (but then again, people on the Catfish TV show have surprised me). Did the two meet or not? There’s also the possibility he had an idea it was fake, but clung on to the story because he wanted to believe it was real. Kinda messed up, but again, people do fool themselves.

Hopefully this story will continue to unfold and make more sense as time passes. Either way, Te’o and his family must be plenty embarrassed Does Nev need to start consulting for college football teams? Here’s an idea – Catfish: The Sports Files.

What draws you to that sport? Does it have non-stop action? Does it involve superior athleticism, including agility, speed and brute strength? Does it involve a huge, loyal, enthusiastic crowd cheering their team onto triumphant victory? Are you answering “No” to any of these questions? If you are, chances are you’re watching the wrong sport. I’m talking about football and clearly, it’s the sport to watch.

Here are five reasons why American football is the most awesome sport in the word:

1. Tailgating. It can be done in almost any circumstance- rain, shine, day or night. The entire point is to have fun despite whatever the weather is doing. Tailgating at it’s best involves games, grilled food and a few beers to get ready for the fun of attending the game.

2. Good, strategic coaching. Not anyone can be a football coach. There are some pretty crucial qualifications. You typically had a successful professional career yourself, so you have experience. You’d also need to have been born as a natural strategist. Only the truly gifted can craft and draw up some of the most deceiving and tricky plays in the playbook.

3. Rivalries. Sure, other sports have them, but they are much less intense. Why? There’s no physical contact between players to really shake things up. A good bash between opposing players always draws more of a thrill out of a crowd than the occasional accidental interference in baseball ever could.

4. Defense! Yes, other sports offer exciting spectacles of defense, but football is different. Once again, watching well-executed tackles are exciting, but there’s another reason why football defense is different. Unlike other sports, not only can defense lead to scoring, but the defenders can take the ball and score themselves.

5. Fantasy football. Other sports have tried it and failed. Fantasy football not just a hobby for the average guy anymore, it’s a multi-million dollar industry and it wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for football.

Thanksgiving is next week, which means Christmas will be here before you know it. The earlier the shopping starts, the more often the better. For one, you can get some great deals on items and for two, you can get all your shopping over and done with before the masses start to hit the stores – both online and in-person.

If your significant other is an LSU Tigers fan, they probably cannot get enough fan apparel. Men typically are a bit easy to buy for, since a lot of apparel in supermarkets and malls is men’s fit. However, form-fitting fan apparel for women is a bit more difficult to find unless you live on or near a college campus. That’s where online shopping comes in.

So, what to get? Well, for men, it’s hard to go wrong with LSU hats. Most men and women will wear hats in any type of weather. Men tend to like baseball caps and knit hats, and for women it’s often best to go with a knit hat. If hats aren’t their style or they have too many, an LSU watch makes a nice, subtle accessory. Watches are timeless (excuse the lame pun), useful, and go with any outfit. If you want a special gift for a lady, an LSU necklace is another subtle yet thoughtful item that will go with any outfit. If you want to purchase something LSU that isn’t apparel, I just love this cute little LSU snowman.

An LSU item can just be part of your gift, however. Perhaps you might choose to make a gift basket or gift bag. In that case, maybe you’ll include a little something LSU such as a magnet or desk clock. There’s no shortage of fan items out there, you just have to find them.

Oh, Michigan State. How disappointed are Michigan State fans right now? They have lost two home games and angered a lot of fans as well as ticket holders. They put up a fight on Saturday, but still managed losing to Ohio State.

One of the events getting media attention lately involved MSU fans booing their own team during the Eastern Michigan game. At halftime, Eastern Michigan was beating MSU with a score of 7-3. There’s no question fans expected an easy win for MSU out of that game and they were frustrated. Although they won the game, the boos caused some lasting upset for players and MSU’s head football coach Mark Dantonio.

Some criticize the fans for booing and being angry, saying fans should stick by their team and be encouraging. They say the boos make the team feel worse and destroy the collective, positive atmosphere dedicated fans should create. Without a supportive fan base, the team might feel like the stadium is against them and not want to play.

Those on the other side of the fence say players have every right to boo when they expect a certain performance from their team. In addition, with how expensive tickets can be, they say people probably SHOULD be booing if they are spending lots of money on an organization that is not doing the job they’re supposed to be doing. They even say it’s good the boos get to the team; they will be distraught but encouraged to step up their game and do a better job.

So, what’s your take on it? Do you think a little booing is necessary sometimes? Are you a die-hard fan and would never boo? Would you have remained an MSU fan or would you have thrown on an Ohio State t-shirt?

The Bill Cowher era

In 1992, Chuck Noll left and was did well by Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Bill Cowher, a native of the Pittsburgh suburb of Crafton.
Cowher directed the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs in each of his first six times of the year, a feat that had been carried out only by famous adviser Paul Brown of the Cleveland Browns. Overall, Cowher directed the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs in 10 of his 15 times of the year, encompassing an look in Super Bowl XXX on the power of the “Blitzburgh” protecting against at the end of the 1995 season. However, the Steelers lost to the Dallas Cowboys. Cowher made the franchise’s record-tying fifth Super Bowl win in Super Bowl XL over the National Football Conference champion Seattle Seahawks 10 years later. With that triumph, the Steelers became the third group to win five Super Bowls, and the first sixth-seeded playoff group to come to and win the Super Bowl since the NFL amplified to a 12-team post-season tournament in 1990.

The Mike Tomlin era

On January 7, 2007, Cowher relinquished from advising the Pittsburgh Steelers, citing a require to spend more time with his family. He did not use the period “retire,” departing open a likely come back to the NFL as adviser of another team. A three-man managing assembly comprising of Art Rooney II, Dan Rooney, and Kevin Colbert was set up to perform meetings for the head advising vacancy. The candidates consulted included: attack coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, attack line adviser Russ Grimm, previous attack coordinator Chan Gailey, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin, and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. On January 22, 2007, Mike Tomlin was broadcast as Cowher’s successor as head coach. Tomlin is the first African-American to be entitled head adviser of the Pittsburgh Steelers in its 75-year history. Tomlin became the third successive Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach to proceed to the Super Bowl, equaling the Dallas Cowboys (Tom Landry. Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer) in this achievement. He was entitled the Motorola 2008 Coach of the Year. On February 1, 2009, Tomlin directed the Steelers to their second Super Bowl of this ten years, and went on to win 27–23 contrary to the Arizona Cardinals. At age 36, he was the least old head adviser to ever win the Super Bowl, and he is only the second African-American adviser to ever win the Super Bowl (Tony Dungy was the first).

Since the NFL amalgamation in 1970, the Pittsburgh Steelers have amassed a normal time of the year record of 363–235–2 (.607) and an general record of 394–253–2 (.609) encompassing the playoffs, come to the playoffs 24 times, won their partition 19 times, performed in 14 AFC championship sport, and won six of seven Super Bowls.

The Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL first took to the paddock as the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 20, 1933, suffer forfeit 23–2 to the New York Giants. Through the 1930s, the Pirates not ever closed higher than second position in their separation, or with a record better than .500 (1936).Pittsburgh did make past files in 1938 by noting Byron White, a future Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to what was at the time the largest bond in NFL history, but he acted only one year with the Pirates before noting with the Detroit Lions. Prior to the 1940 time of the year, the Pirates renamed themselves the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During World War II, the Pittsburgh Steelers qualified competitor shortages. They double joined with other NFL franchises to paddock a team. During the 1943 time of the year, they joined with the Philadelphia Eagles forming the “Phil-Pitt Eagles” and were famous as the “Steagles”. This assembly went 5–4–1. In 1944, they joined with the Chicago Cardinals and were famous as Card-Pitt (or, mockingly, as the “Carpets”).This assembly closed 0–10, grading the only winless assembly in franchise history.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the playoffs for the first time in 1947, tying for first position in the separation at 8–4 with the Philadelphia Eagles. This impelled a tie-breaking playoff game at Forbes Field, which the Steelers lost 21–0.That would be Pittsburgh’s only playoff game for 25 years, though the Steelers did be eligible for a “Playoff Bowl” in 1963 as the second-best assembly in their group debate, though not deliberated an agent playoff.

In 1970, the year they transferred into Three Rivers Stadium and the year of the AFL-NFL joining, the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of three old-guard NFL assemblies to change to the newly-formed American Football Conference (the other people being the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts), in rank to equalize the number of assemblies in the two group debates of the newly-merged league.

The Chuck Noll era
The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ past files of horrid luck modified with the leasing of trainer Chuck Noll for the 1969 season. Noll’s most extraordinary ability was in his first depart collections, taking Hall of Famers “Mean” Joe Greene in 1969, Terry Bradshaw and Mel Blount in 1970, Jack Ham in 1971, Franco Harris in 1972,and lastly, in 1974, hauled off the amazing feat of picking four Hall of Famers in one first depart year, Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, and Mike Webster. The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ 1974 first depart was their best ever, and no other assembly has ever prepared a first copy four future Hall of Famers in one year.

The players prepared a first copy in the early ’70s formed the foundation of an NFL dynasty, establishing the playoffs in eight times of the year and turning into the only assembly in NFL past files to win four Super Bowls in six years, as well as the first to win more than two. They in addition savored a standard time of the year speckle of 49 following wins (1971–1979) in resistance to assemblies that would close with a suffer forfeit record that year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers tolerated a rash of damage in the 1980 time of the year and missed the playoffs with a 9–7 record. The 1981 time of the year was no better, with an 8–8 showing. The assembly was then bang with the retirements of all their key players from the Super Bowl years. “Mean” Joe Greene withdrew after the 1981 time of the year, Lynn Swann and Jack Ham after 1982’s playoff berth, Terry Bradshaw and Mel Blount after 1983’s divisional championship, and Jack Lambert after 1984’s AFC Championship Game appearance.

After those retirements, the franchise skidded to its first suffer forfeit times of the year since 1971. Though still competent, the Pittsburgh Steelers would not close atop .500 in 1985, 1986, and 1988. In 1987, the year of the players’ beat, the Steelers closed with a record of 8–7, but missed the playoffs. In 1989, they would arrive at the second around of the playoffs on the might of Merrill Hoge and Rod Woodson before narrowly missing the playoffs in each of the next two seasons.

Stay tuned for our second post on the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
